Gattuso to Mediaset: "The offer came three weeks ago, I spoke to Mirabelli and Fassone and we met with each other three times."

Gattuso: "In my opinion, this is the right choice; it's not a step back. I'm at a glorious club that wants to return to the top again."

Gattuso: "I liked the offer. I'll coach young players and hope to make them improve. At Pisa, we developed a lot of kids."

Gattuso:"Milan will be strengthened, there will be purchases and something will be done in the youth sectors as well. Galli is responsible.

Gattuso: "I'll just be the Primavera coach and be in close contact with the first team. We must play with the same form."

Gattuso: "I'll listen to Montella's advice. He is a well-trained manager, and this must be learned. I cannot wait to get started."

Gattuso: "Donnarumma knows that he can become a Milan icon. He has 20 years ahead of him and can write Milan's history. I hope he stays."

Gattuso: "Morata has great class and talent, he's a goalscorer and allows the team to play well. It would be important if he joins."

Gattuso: "However, Milan will make many significant purchases."

Raiola: "I don't have Montella's number & I don't need it.If I have to talk with someone,I would call Mirabelli acc. To my professionalism."

Raiola: "However, if they want to extend Donnarumma's contract, every party must take its time."

Raiola: "Milan's ownership has changed since a month and they're to change anything. They haven't told me that they want to sell him."

Raiola: "We often speak with Milan. I do not understand that media circle, I had agreed with Milan to not speak about Donnarumma anymore."

Raiola: "Montella does not have to act as an agent, he can calmly go to vacation. If there is a scheduled meeting I wouldn't say in public."

Raiola: "We have good relations with Milan. I don't think that they could send him to the stands."

Raiola: "He has another year in his contract. I don't understand the newspapers who want to hasten a decision that is too important."

Raiola to Sky: "Donnarumma has to go on a peacful holiday after NT duty. We are taking the time needed to make our considerations."

                      • Fassone: 'Donnarumma or Plan B'

Milan director Marco Fassone denied they’d leave Gianluigi Donnarumma in the stands without a new contract, but “we need a Plan B.”

“The fans can relax, as we are putting in the effort to build a competitive squad,” the CEO told Mediaset Premium.

“We are renegotiating the voluntary agreement (on Financial Fair Play) with UEFA, we’ll see if there’s a deal by June, otherwise we’ll meet again in November. I am optimistic.”

This weekend there were front page headlines in multiple papers claiming Milan had threatened to leave Donnarumma in the stands for all of next season if he didn’t sign a new contract by June 30.

His current deal is due to expire in June 2018 and there are clubs such as Manchester City and Manchester United ready to pay €75m.

“Mino Raiola is one of the best agents, so I wouldn’t criticise what he does. Gigio is a pillar for us to build the team around next season. We told him that and we told his agent.

“We are clarifying the situation. When I look at Donnarumma, I see in his eyes the desire to remain. What we cannot do is wait around. We need to give Montella his squad, we want to know if we’ve got a goalkeeper coming to the end of his contract or not.

“Our timeframe is rather shorter than Raiola would like. I am sure we’ll find a solution, but at the moment there are no meetings planned.

“Leaving Donnarumma in the stands for a year? No club would do such a thing. We don’t want a goalkeeper whose contract is running down. We’ll make our evaluations and we need a Plan B in case things don’t go the way we want.

“It’s a plan we have not yet fully developed, because we are convinced our project is ideal for Gigio. We are ready to make sacrifices for him, but if the response is not positive, then we’ll look to Plan B.”

The Rossoneri have also been heavily linked with a bid for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata.

“Montella evaluated the squad and spoke to (director Massimo) Mirabelli. I can confirm that over the next month we’ll be looking to reinforce the team and I won’t rule out something in attack.

“Is Carlos Bacca on the market? We’ll try to build the best possible squad.”

                            • Fassone: ‘Everything for Donnarumma’

Marco Fassone says Milan are “ready to do everything” to keep Gianluigi Donnarumma, but “the final decision is his”.

The goalkeeper is out of contract at the end of next season, and so far the Rossoneri have failed to reach an agreement with his agent, Mino Raiola.

“We hope to keep him,” CEO Fassone said on Radio Uno.

“It doesn’t just depend on the heart, but also contractual power. Our desire is to give him a renewal and make a financial effort.

“We’re ready to do everything, even if the last word is his.

“If he doesn’t renew? We don’t want to lose him. The scenario is quite unlikely, but we couldn’t allow ourselves to have him leave in July at the end of his contract.”

Fassone also reflected on the Diavolo’s season, which saw Vincenzo Montella guide them into the Europa League.

“We won’t turn our nose up at the preliminaries of the Europa League. We want to return to being a competitive team, and getting back into Europe is the first step, also to find the habit of playing every three days.

“Our club is working well, making predictions is useless but we want to return to the Champions League by next season.

“There are two ways to get to the Champions League [top four in Serie A or winning the Europa League].

“Playing on Thursdays isn't easy, but we’ll have to make a mental effort to do well.

“What does the team need? These are technical assessments to be made by Montella and [sporting director Massimiliano] Mirabelli.

“We have to bring some experienced players into the squad who are used to winning, and that will be crucial for the youngsters.

“Then we need to change our mentality too, because we need to get back in the winning habit.

“Alvaro Morata? I always read this merry-go-round of names but we’re not close to anyone. We’ve spoken to some European clubs, but I don’t want to name them.

“We’re working to give Montella two-thirds or three-quarters of his squad quickly, we want to buy by the first of July.”

Does that mean Montella will continue as Coach?

                              “Consistency is crucial,” Fassone replied.

“We’ve followed the boss closely from outside before the closing, then we got to know him better. He’s on the right track and we’re convinced he’s the Coach for us.”
