Paul Pierce and J.R. Smith are helping to fuel a Nets-Knicks rivalry with a war of words.
Well, it's not really a war, but they are talking smack about each other. Pierce started it, saying "It's time for the Nets to start running this city." Smith fired back with "He doesn't really know what New York is all about...He just knows, just know that his words have consequences and he's going to have to pay for them." When asked about Smith's comments Thursday, Pierce acted as if he didn't even know who J.R. Smith is. "Who are we talking about? We are talking about nothing." While the talk is pretty harmless and slightly humorous, it should be fun watching the new-look Nets battle with the Knicks throughout the season. They don't meet until Dec. 5, and we're guessing Smith will be ready for that one after serving a five-game suspension and recovering from knee surgery.

Rajon Rondo (ACL) may be out until December

Rajon Rondo (ACL surgery) may not be ready to play until December, according to GM Danny Ainge.
Brad Stevens said it was "unlikely that [Rondo] will be ready" for the Celtics' season opener, and Ainge said he'd be "shocked" if Rondo plays. The Celtics are assessing his status on a week-to-week basis and there's no clear timetable for his return. Until he's healthy enough to play, Boston will patch up the PG position with Avery Bradley and Phil Pressey.
