Colonel Gadaffi was 'hours away' from buying Manchester United

The Libyan dictator Colonel Gadaffi was 'hours away' from purchasing the biggest stake in Manchester United, according to the man who brokered the Glazer family's takeover of the club.

Turkish-Cypriot financier Mehmet Dalman told the Sunday Times how he flew to Libya by private jet to to discuss a deal to buy-out John Magnier and JP McManus's 29.9% shareholding with Gadaffi's key advisors in 2004.

The Irish tycoons fell out with manager Sir Alex Ferguson over ownership of the racehorse Rock of Gibraltar, and asked Dalman to help sell their shares.

"People don't realise how the [takeover] deal was a whisker away from going to Libya," Dalman said. "Gadaffi almost bought the club. That's how close it got - literally, you're talking about a few hours."

Gadaffi, who died in 2011 , went on to purchase Italian club Perugia after the two parties failed to agree on a price for the controlling stake in United.

Saadi Gadaffi, son of the former Libyan autocrat, revealed further details of the potential deal in a 2005 interview with the Financial Times.

He said: "Seven or eight months ago we were about to buy shares in Manchester United. We kept it secret because I thought we were going to do it. But now it's impossible.

"I told my father it would be like buying the Church of England. It's very hard, maybe impossible because of the fans and the history, very difficult.

"It's a golden, golden, golden, golden club."

The 29.9% stake was eventually bought by the Glazer family who completed their full takeover of the club within days to much protests from United supporters.

Dalman is now chairman of Cardiff City, who host Premier League leaders Manchester City in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday.

Uh tesko pitanje, Zorzinjo mi je idealan da zamijeni Kerika i on je bas DLP kakav treba da bude, ali ako dodje onda mora da se igra sa trojicom u vezi. Tijago iako je vrhunski plejmeker i njegove lopte imaju oci moze da povuce, predbribla, odlican je kod presjecenih pasova i citanja igre, moze da igra na vise pozicija na sredini i moze da funkcionise sasvim dobro u formaciji sa dva vezna igraca, on mi je nesto najblize Modricu, sve moze. Ja bih obojicu ako je moguce

Bolji je i zahvalniji Alkantara svakako.
