Chelsea are closing in on the signing of Brazilian wonder kid Gerson, 17, from Fluminense. The 17 year-old, who is currently starring for Brazil at the Under-20s South American Youth Championship, looked set to join Juventus on Tuesday but now it seems that Chelsea have leapt to the front of the queue and will look to complete the deal before the transfer window closes.
Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus & Manchester City have all been linked with the player who is yet to make his first senior appearance, although he has twice been named as a substitute.
One potential issue with the deal is that the player is currently part owned by a third-party, something which is prohibited in the Premier League. This would mean that Chelsea may have to fork out more than the £10m price that has been quoted. It would also need to be decided whether Gerson will stay on loan at Fluminense or be loaned out in Europe, potentially to Vitesse Arnhem whom Chelsea have already sent 3 of their younger players to this season.
