Zahvalila sam ti i u Rogerovoj temi, crystal.
Bravo!

        13 Jan 2008

Today, all of us are free so we are off to do what ever we want. I had arrange to meet up with one of my ex-classmate for her to show me around the city.

So after lunch and shopping with my ex-clasmate, she showed me Crown towers, the shopping centre and the casino next to it. I went to the hotel after that since I know that many players stayed there.

Then I saw someone who look very familiar, looks just like Rafa! Now I 'd never seen Rafa before that and I wasn't even convince that was him! hahah! His hair was wet and he look very well built. Then I realised that he is really Rafa and I got extremely nervous. I wanted to ask for a picture but I was too scare. He was standing and talking to some friends over there for a long time. I then walked past by him while he was still taking and pretend that I don't reconised him. I was shivering that time!!! OMG!!! I was too excited and nervous! I walked past him and then turn back to see if he is still there and he is! Arrrhh!!

I want a picture but what should I said? Finally I found some courage to walk up to him as I was shivering and said very softly "Errr, Rafa" He was still taking with his friend that time and I think I'm too soft! I then stand next to him waited for him to finish talking in Spainish. Then I asked again "Errr...Emmmm (shivering) Rafael Nadal???" And he looked at me. I continued " Can I have a picture with you?" He then gave me a nod and stand next to me. I gave my camera to one of his friend and asked him to take a picture for me. Rafa put his arms around me and it makes me feel more nervous! I don't know why! hahah!!! Must be I had a crush on him! hahah! He was nice ofcourse and I thanked him after that and we walked off with his friends.

After that I just can't believed what had happened. A man nearby with his family saw me and asked me to show him the pic which later made his wife really jealous! LOL!

I waited again hopping that I might see Roger. I called Tess to tell her that I saw Rafa and she decided to come as well! After less than and hour, I saw Rafa again, this time walking past. Oh no, I was sitting at the couch reading some books and I lean down so to make sure he does not see me!!! He then went up the lift and I sigh in relieve that he didn't saw me or I'll be totally embarased!!!

I then walked around the area out of the hotel and in the hotel again. I went to the toilet which is so nice and was empty that time. I started saying outloud to myself OMG, OMG!!! I saw Rafa! He is so nice! Unbelieable! Already I felt like I'm flooting in heaven or dreaming and I had no idea that I will see him again!

I waited so long for Tess, it seems she have so many things to do like finding tickets...etc and I don't even know if she was coming. Then I got hungry and I went up to the hotel restaurant/buffet to grab some food and drinks for free! hahah!!! I had some cakes, sushi, noodles and some beef! Too funny! it like as if I'm the hotel resident. I know I'm being such a bad girl but things like this only happen once in a lifetime, might as well I just enjoy myself and not worry too much!

I then meet up with Tess finally and we sat on the couch and started taking about many stuffs. I didn't think we will see anymore tennis player because it's getting late and I'm getting tired. I wanted to go back but Tess conviced me to wait some more. Then some guys came and sat behind our couch. I don't know them at all so I didn't care. But then I thought they look somesort of tennis players so I asked Tess if she knows any of them and Tess told me that once of them is Carlos Moya. I heard of Carlos before but I'm not so sure how he look like! I asked Tess about him and she said she had a picture with him before. So I thought, why not I ask for a picture as well since they look so relax and just taking. It won't hurt right? I asked Tess if it's okey for me to ask for a picture and she said that I should just go ahead. So I walked over to Carlos and ask a very-very stupid question!

I said "Hi, Are you Carlos Moya?" hahaha!!!

...Ok I'll continue the story tommorow...it's late now

        Veliko hvala rainbow_xtina

"I admire good decent people, that's what's most important in life"

Rafael Nadal has reached the top in tennis by dint of preparation and hard work and his trajectory so far leads one to think that he still has many triumphs ahead of him. His image has become a model for young people, although he considers himself a normal ordinary person and thinks that what is most important when it comes to assessing people is whether they are decent or not.

Within the 'bonanza' that Spanish sport is having at present, one man, made from a different mould, stands out from the other prominent figures. Rafa Nadal, a 20-year-old boy from Manacor (Mallorca), has made a magnificent, impressive appearance exploding on to the tennis scene with colourful victories, each one increasingly more brilliant than the other. In the 2000s, in a sport like tennis where there have always been stars, Nadal appears to be our most complete player yet, capable of sweeping everyone before him on clay at Roland Garros, the claycourt temple, and of overtaking records made on this very surface by mythical figures like Bjorn Borg and tennis legends like Thomas Muster and Guillermo Vilas.

When it comes to making comparisons (that other popular Spanish sport), Nadal has surpassed all of his predecessors because he has the strength, the energy and sufficient talent to give us what many have been unable to: Nadal plays well on all surfaces and probably very few doubt that next year or the following ones, he will be able to be champion at one of the other Grand Slams, at Wimbledon, in the US, or in Australia. If looking for another sportsman like Nadal, the reader might find Miguel Indurain the closest. Nadal has charisma, crushes his opponents on court, his image dominates, but, above all, he has good manners, unaffectedness and principles, all learned at home. Nadal is an example to follow. Many Spanish sportsmen have arrived at the summit of Mount Olympus but there are very few as unaffected and humble as Nadal.

Nadal spoke to the 'Magazine' on his native soil, opening his heart and revealing his private thoughts to us. What we discovered was a model young man capable of talking about any subject, but, above all, a young man with a good head on his shoulders. Success comes to and smiles on many but Nadal gives the sensation that he appreciates being a normal youngster much more than being a famous well-off tennis player.

Magazine: A few days ago, your uncle and trainer, Toni Nadal, gave a conference in Barcelona on success at a young age, which is precisely what happened to you who, when barely a few months over 15 years old, already figured in the record books. Your uncle revealed that among the lessons that he tried to teach you was never to think that you were a special person, that there are others in the world who are indeed that and you are not, as you just hit a ball over the net.

Rafa NadalDo you sense that the public likes you?

The public really gets behind me, and that's very nice for me. It's very pleasant to have people you don't know at all wanting you to win, and who also expect something of you off court as well.

Your uncle says that one of the keys to success on court is working with humility and keeping on being humble.

I think humility goes with normalcy, with being an ordinary normal person, and in not being presumptious or wanting to be different from others. I consider myself to be exactly the same as the 20-year-old friends I have in Manacor, no more and no less. That's humility for me, because it's sometimes easy to think you're "el rey del mambo" (the bee's knees), and things are not like that, because you go up and down in life... and you come down much more rapidly than you rise. You always have to remember who you are and where you come from.

            Do you apply these principles?

Of course. I still have my friends - one since I was 3 years old, my 'gang', and we always go around together. I live as I have always lived, with my parents and my sister, nothing has changed for me. When I'm at home, I'm just another one of the townsfolk.

Is there anything remaining of that child?

Well, I don't feel like a grown up. I don't think that you can feel grown up at twenty. I'm a youngster who circumstances have led to experience things that others probably experience when they are older, but, when all is said and done, when I step outside of my professional world of tennis and have to decide things, I'm like anybody else. At the age of 20, you want to enjoy yourself, to go out, to be with your friends.

What does sacrifice mean to you? Why do they always talk about young sportsmen sacrificing themselves?

There's always a sacrifice and one can get bitter about it or value it. I highly value having the good fortune to work at what I like, to be where I am and that things are going so well for me as they have done until now... and also, knowing that there are people that would pay to be where I am, just out of respect for them, I have to be happy with what I've got.

            Are you happy?

            Yes, I am.

When was the last time you cried?

I think it was at a tennis match, after winning the point for the doubles in Santander against Italy. We were under a bit of pressure because we hadn't won the doubles in a long time, and when it was over, I cried, but I've also cried a lot off court on other occasions.

Do you see yourself as an idol?

I don't think I can have an opinion on that. What I can say is that when I do something or when I play tennis, I don't come out thinking that I'm an idol or that I'm Rafa Nadal, the tennis player. I try to be me. Sometimes you have to stop doing things your friends do, though. It's obvious that I'm probably admired by many youngsters, many people in the world, and what I'd like is for them to admire me as a person as well as as a tennis player. I don't try to be an example to anyone, but, when my sporting career is over, I'd also like a lot of people to remember me as an unaffected, normal, ordinary person... and well-brought up... and a good decent person, which is the most important.

You try to be normal, but a lot of people expect you to be an example. Isn't that too much responsibility for a 20-year-old?

I always try to be myself. If I was a normal person, someone unknown, I would do the same as I do now. I wouldn't do anything different. Neither fame nor success has changed my life. I can assure you.

            Who do you admire?
I admire a lot of people, but, above all, good decent people, that being, I think, the most important thing in life.

            Do you feel secure?

I think that everybody, even the most confident, have moments of insecurity. Probably people that watch me play think I'm a secure, self-confident player. They see me so focused that it seems as if things always go well, but one has the same doubts as anyone else. When I go out on court, I don't know if I'm going to win or lose. I know that I have to try to fight, try to play a good game and, if I do so, I have my chances of winning. I may be thinking that next year is going to be my year in Australia, but I also have my doubts about whether I'll still be number two in the world because I think there are very good players coming up behind me. When I returned to playing this year, I had doubts about whether I would be the same as before, I managed it but you never know when things are going to change. You have to keep on working with the same enthusiasm as ever and with the humility necessary to go on improving.

Are your doubts caused more by the rivals that are pressing at your heels or by fear of your own weakness?

I don't think that having doubts is a sign of weakness. It's only human. Everybody has doubts. When a student goes along to an examination at the university, he has doubts. He's almost certainly thinking about whether he has studied this or the other well, or not. I have my doubts when I go out on to a tennis court: if I've been training well; if I've done things well; if I'm going to win; if I can win the tournament. Federer himself, the best player ever, must certainly have his doubts, too.

Has what started out as something you enjoyed doing stopped being that?

It hasn't stopped being something I enjoy but there are times when things are not so simple that you can just go out and simply enjoy yourself. There are days when there is so much pressure on you that the most important thing is to know how to deal with it. I wish I could go out on court just to enjoy myself, without thinking of anything else but playing a good match, but there are moments when things change you a bit and you go out on court under a bit more tension than usual. When you find the point at which pressure and enjoyment become one and the same thing, that's when you become confident.

What don't you do that you would like to do?

Quite simply, have a bit more free time for me.

            What would you do?

I want free time for myself. When I'm not playing, I'm always doing things, good things like getting an award, giving an interview, a ceremony here, some advertisements there. The only thing I really miss is 'free time'.

            What's your limit?

I don't know what my limit is but, obviously, I still have expectations and dreams. I want to have a fairly lengthy career and stay at the very top for a long time. I would like to keep on winning some important title or other. My dream is to keep on improving every day and become a better tennis player, even if the results are perhaps not quite so good later on. I think I can still get better.

What can't you stand? What upsets you?

I can't stand bad people, those that don't want the others' good, those that only look out for themselves.

            Egoists?

No, at some point you can understand egoists, but 'bad people', or people who think that they're the only person in the world and don't see that there are other people there too, that's what I don't like.

Are there people like that in tennis?

For sure. Unfortunately, tennis players, and most sportsmen these days, are emerging younger and younger and it seems as if you're a great star at 17-18, when you are not. If you haven't got your head firmly on your shoulders, if you think you're the king of the world, that people have to pay attention only to you, you are not being realistic. You have to try not to think like that. If I think like that and I retire at 30, I'm sure that at 31 I'm going to be in a real mess because I'll be in for a great disappointment. I'm going to realise that I'm not who I thought I was or that I was only a 'normal' person. You're not Federer, or Nadal, or Alonso any more, then you are just a normal citizen like all the others, and you probably don't have all the privileges that that you once had, and you don't have all the people that used to pay you so much attention, and, if you're not ready for that, if you're not as normal as possible, then you'll end up badly.

Did you get all this education at home, or is it something exclusively you?

No (it's not just me), they taught me lots of things at home.

Your uncle says: "I wouldn't like to see him in a Ferrari."

I disagree. I'm not going to start swaggering around just because I drive a Ferrari, nor would I feel different from all the others. You can have things that you like if you have the ability to buy them. If I have the money and I like the idea, why should I not buy a Ferrari? I don't think that your values are - I'm not talking about me, I don't like Ferraris - that because you drive a car like that everybody thinks you are bigheaded. You can have one and still be the same. You have to say: "I've been lucky to be able to buy a Ferrari" and not: "Oh yes, yesterday I bought a Ferrari". You shouldn't brag.

            Have you argued about this?

I argue with my uncle about lots of things, I don't say 'Amen' to everything, but he's almost always right...

            What are you afraid of?

As a sportsman, I'm scared of injuries, but that's just something that happens in sport. What I am afraid of is illnesses; I just want the people I love always to be well.

Rafael Nadal likes to talk in absolutes.

Sometimes it's because his English is limited. But most times it's on purpose, his tone laced with the kind of resolve which says that while the rest of us are wondering if he'll knock Roger Federer off his perch, he's planning the when.
